‘Sylwan’, the oldest scientific journal on forestry in the world, needs to be reorganized in order to keep and increase its international sound and perception. The present position of the journal expressed by impact factor (0.624 in 2019) is not satisfactory taking into account its very long history and tradition. Even if the principal mission of the journal is to transfer the knowledge into forestry practice, the transition to publishing in English is necessary to make the journal open for foreign authors and accessible in full content to wider circle of readers. The reasons justifying above described needs, and the way to achieve the expected effects, are discussed in the paper.
