Results of mycological and bacteriological examination of bronchial content of 22 newborn children requiring prolonged intubation and artificial ventilation were statistically analysed. In Four (18.1%) presence of Candida albicans was found in bronchial content during treatment. In all the children bacterial flora was found in bronchial content, the Gram-positive bacteria dominating. The results indicate that in long hospitalized newborn children requiring prolonged intubation and treatment with antibiotics, a broadened mycological diagnostics should become a routine test.
