The goal of this paper was to present the situation of the job market in rural areas of Świętokrzyskie province in the period of Polish economy transformation. Analysis of statistical data for the years 1992-2002 revealed an increase in both structural and hidden unemployment. A whole range of factors, which limited to a great extent job market recovery, includes low state financial spending on active methods of unemployment reduction. An increased population of people at the productive age and pauperisation of numerous social groups make the situation even more difficult. Moreover, lack of significant actions taken in rural areas to create non-agricultural jobs is still a serious problem to solve. Further prospects and possibilities concerning reduction of unemployment in rural areas should be focused on multifunctional development of these areas of Świętokrzyskie province.
