The idea of the Scandinavian telecottages has spread in Hungary as well, in the last 10 years more than 500 telecottages have been set up all over the country. The definition of the telecottages can vary in each countries depending on the needs of the citizens. The common description says that telecottages are service centres offering communal access to information technology related tools and to the internet, and office etc. services. How can telecottages enrich the countryside? They offer the possibility of using the information technology to decrease the social, economical and cultural drawbacks and to wipe out the isolation, and a place for the community for services, education and events. That is the way how the telecottage network contributes to the preservation of the population in the countryside and to the raising the standard of living of those living in the countryside.

Idea telecentrów pojawiła się w Skandynawii, a w okresie ostatnich 10 lat powstało już 500 takich klubów na Węgrzech. Telecentra są różnie definiowane, jednak najpowszechniej uznaje się je za centra proponujące usługi z zakresu technologii informatycznej. Istnienie takich centrów umożliwiając mieszkańcom korzystanie z internetu, zmniejsza ograniczenia dotyczące szeroko pojętej komunikacji, ułatwia obsługę socjalną, ekonomiczną i kulturalną.
