EN

Rhacopus sahlbergi (MANNERHEIM, 1823) belongs to the family Eucnemidae. It is the only species of the genus occurring in Europe, but also in Mongolia, western Siberia (MUONA 2007), the Asian part of Turkey (MERTLIK et al. 2007) and Iran (BUNALSKI et al. 2023). It was first recorded in the present borders of Poland in 1938, in Jedwabno (FOLWACZNY 1939). Later recorded in Podlasie (Czuprynowo near Kuźnica), in the Białowieża Forest and in the Lublin Upland (Mircze Forest District) (HILSZCZAŃSKI et al. 2015) and Stare Biele reserve in the Supraśl Forest District (GUTOWSKI et al. 2024). In 2022, 1 individual was caught in a window trap near a hole in an alder tree. In 2024, 1 individual was caught in a pheromone trap for a striped ambrosia beetle. Both beetles were caught in the Giżycko Forest District. According to the Red List of Endangered and Threatened Animals, it is classified as an extinct or probably extinct species in Poland (EX, EX?) (PAWŁOWSKI et al. 2002). Taking into account recent reports, the status of this species on the Red List should be changed to Data Deficient (DD).
