Green areas perform a variety of functions, which is a positive phenomenon. It is of importance that their environmental and functional roles should not exclude one another. These relations are particularly conspicuous in urban parks as there are two urban systems in them: open and public areas (Solarek 2009).The aim of the article is to assess development and functioning of the urban park in Aleksandrów Łódzki in the opinion of its users. The main method used in this work was standardized questionnaire interview with its users conducted in the T. Kościuszko park at the end of August and beginning of September. Fifty questionnaires were conducted with the users of the research area. These were all people who were in the park during the period considered and decided to take part in the study. According to the authors, the structure of the respondents, expressed in terms of metrics, is representative for the structure of users of the park (fig. 3). The questionnaire comprised 11 questions, out of which 3 were open and 8 closed (fig. 6-13). Besides, park area inventory was made, during which all elements of spatial development were mapped and elaborated with a use of GIS tools (fig. 2). Photographic documentation has been also prepared, which presents actual spatial development of the park in Aleksandrów Łódzki (pic. 1-6). It was concluded that the park in Aleksandrów Łódzki is well developed. Respondents have some reservations only with regard to functioning of the park which refer to the feeling of security within the boundaries of the cultivated green areas in question. The town authorities should, therefore, focus on increasing safety levels to make the park friendlier for its users.
