A content of some heavy metals - Pb, Zn, Cu and Mn was evaluated in four subsoils: bare soil and grass-covered soil from a side-space of roads, garden soil and washed, calcinated sand (pure sand). A level of the chemicals elements was also determined in seedlings air dry matter of soyabean, winter wheat, buckwheat, cucumber and white charlock raised on these subsoils. The grass-covered soil from a side-space of the roads was the most contaminated with Pb, Zn, Cu and Mn. The plant seedlings raised on that soil acumulated significantly highier amount of Pb and Cu in comparison to that raised on garden soil and on pure sand. The soyabean seedlings contained the least of Pb, Zn, Cu and Mn, while cucumber and buckwheat the highest, flic greater uptake of Pb, Zn and Cu on soils from side-space of roads was connected with their higher content in these subsoils. The level of Mn in seedlings from garden soil was probably caused by the hihger concetration of H⁺ ions in this subsoil.
