Studies of relations between the natural environment and agriculture at the Department of Regional Geography

The article deals with this part of the man - environment problem which is linked with his agricultural activity. On a background of the systematization of various character of the relations between agriculture and natural environment, the subject of research which appears in the series of Master's theses written at the Department of Regional Geography has been shown. Out of six subject series: 1. optimum. potential and real areas of occurrence of selected cultivations, 2. natural obstacles of agriculture. 3. natural environment and chosen features of agriculture, 4. types of soil and chosen features of agriculture, 5. natural environment and land utilization, 6. agricultural landscape - natural conditions and threats, the principles, methodology and the results of studies on the relations between the quality of soil and the agricultural production, have been discussed more widely. The results of studies heve been shown from the substantial, as well as methodolical perspective. Particularly, the following questions have been asked: 1. which feature of agriculture shows stronger, and which one weaker correlation with the types of soil? 2. which plants are dependent more, and which oncs are less on the quality of soil? 3. does the strength of relations depend on size of the area and the degree of differentation of the phenomena compared? As concerns the cognitive aspect, the results of studies confirm the general tendencies of relation between the quality of soil and the structure of sowing and crops which are known from the previous studies and literature. From the methodological point of view, the value of the series is the starting point of the discussion and the reflection on the essence of the relations between natural environment and agriculture. The discussion led to the seareh of other approaches to the subject, which regard true natural features, and not as in this case, transformed and covered by the estimation made before. The expression of the research are four other subject series of the Master's theses mentioned above.
