Malacofauna of the Szreniawa River flood deposits between Wolbrom and Miechow

Rich molluscan thanatocoenoses were found in the flood deposits of the Szreniawa River between Wolbrom and Miechów. Theycomprised 49 taxa of snails and bivalves. The thanatocoenoses were studied using standard methods of malacological analysis. The structure of mollusc assemblages from flood deposits reflects the environment of the drainage basin. The thanatocoenoses correspond with malacofauna living at the bottom of the valleys. Such observations are of basic significance for the interpretation of subfossil Quaternaryfaunas as paleoenvironment indicators.
