One of the causes of the low yields of sugar beet in Poland seems to be high losses of roots amounting to 30% of the raw material occurring during root heading and harvest. Faulty heading stems from the unequal plant distribution all over the unit area as well as variation within their protrusion over the soil surface what bears relation to the root weight were investigated. To evaluate the uniformity degree of sugar beet plantations at the harvest, the uniformity index (HQ) of 5 degree scale was defined. Values of HQ within 80-100 show very good of equilization of plants on the plantation what results in minimum of losses at the harvest.
