This article presents the influence of credit activity on financial results achieved by co-operative banks in Poland. The survey was conducted on the relatively large sample of the co-operative banks (i.e. 1359) across an entire country over the 1995-2000 period. Estimation results indicate bank financial results responded the most to credits granted to non-financial entities, namely to individual enterprises, private companies, households and farmers. The less important was found the government, however the credits extended to this sector also have statistically significant influence on financial results of the co-operative banks. Furthermore, the diversification of credit portfolio by co-operative banks demonstrates that on Polish financial markets they perform functions typical for universal banks.
