The article is an attempt at presentation of population growth in big Turkish cities. The observations concern capital cities of the provinces (73 cities at present). Ankara and Istanbul were analyzed in more detail. The data of 1985 and 1990 were compared and the analogous investigations of the 1960s were discussed. The results show that the current rate of urbanization in Turkey is at a medium level; in big cities this rate is high. The regionalization made by Z.
