The paper discusses the changing pattern of New Zealand farm production and economic activity during the last two decades in a way that will identify implications for Poland and other countries in transition. The outline of the paper is as follows. Firstly there is a brief history of New Zealand agriculture and some description of the current situation. This is followed by a description of the significant transformation that occurred during the 1980s and 1990s. This will highlight the key issues during the period of transition and the longer term consequences. These issues form the basis of some preliminary conclusions regarding the relevance of the New Zealand experience for Polish agriculture.

Artykuł poświęcony jest rozważaniom nad zmieniającą się strukturą produkcji rolniczej oraz aktywności gospodarczej Nowej Zelandii na przestrzeni dwóch ostatnich dekad ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem implikacji dla Polski i innych krajów transformacji systemowej. Autor w skrócie przedstawia historię rozwoju rolnictwa w Nowej Zelandii i charakteryzuje jego bieżącą sytuację, a w szczególności najważniejsze przemiany lat 80. i 90. W ten sposób naświetla podstawowe problemy okresu przemian i ich długofalowe konsekwencje. Rozważania te stanowią podstawę do ogólnych konkluzji dotyczących możliwości wykorzystania doświadczeń Nowej Zelandii w przemianach rolnictwa w Polsce, które mogą być wykorzystane jednak tylko pośrednio.
