The subject of this article is to analyze the broad aspects of road transport’s development in the light of the economics principles and sustainable development policy. Socio-economic development and mutual cooperation entities operating in diff erent geographical areas drive growth of transportation needs. This implementation is carried out by various modes of transport. Due to its advantages, especially speed, wide accessibility of means of transport, the possibility of direct transportation of goods and people, as well as the favorable distribution of the infrastructure, road transport is the dominant and most important contemporary mode of transport. The analysis shows that road transport gained currently a special status in everyday live of people. Despite the difficulties in obtaining accurate quantitative data about the road transportation, it can be noticed that the largest share of it, is for personal transportation, not commercial, which contradicts the common opinions about this trend. The rapid development of road transport highlighted the negative impact of transport modes such as on the environment. The result s therefore a conflict between economy and environment. Implementation of theory of economics and sustainable development policy concerning transport is to achieve a balance between the further development of the economy and the preservation of and natural resources and qualities.
