The degree of cumulation and biological effects of low concentrations of lindane administered to pregnant females was assessed experimentally on guinea-pigs. A high con- centration of у — HCH in the mammary gland was observed u mg the period of lactation. The level of this compound was statistically significantly higher in the mammary gland than that in the liver. In the group of females which had been given lindane there were noted two cases of mastitis one case of adenocarcinoma and two cases of glandular tissue atrophy and collapse of follicules. Simultaneously a very high у — HCH concentration was observed in the mammary glands with inflammatory changes. An intensive phagocytic activity of the peripheral blood cells in relation to S. aureus 305 and Smith bacteria was found in the group of females contaminated with lindane. An increased number/ of Heinz bodies and rings in erythrocytes were also noted; they indicated that some changes in the stručni т haemoglobin and erythrocytic membranes took The, values of haematological (morphology) and biochemical parameters (transaminase, cholesterol) in the control and experimental animals were within the species.
