Investigations were conducted in over twenty years old apple orchard, at Dąbrowice Experimental Orchard of the Research Institute of Horticulture in Skierniewice (central Poland), in 2010-2011. Herbicides were applied in May, with a plot sprayer fitted with protective shields, on the actively grown weeds, higher than 10 cm (21-65 in BBCH scale). Glyphosate applied at the rate of 1080 g/ha with a multicomponent adjuvant (AS 500 SL) composed of ammonia ions, cationic surfactant and pH adjuster, provided effective control of perennial weeds Epilobium adenocaulon and Taraxacum officinale. The effectiveness of this treatment and standard, recommended application of glyphosate at the rate of 1800 g/ha, were similar. The herbicide mixture of glyphosate at the rate of 360 g/ha + MCPA - 300 g/ha, with tested adjuvant, efficiently controlled grass and broadleaf annual weeds such as: Poa annua, Geranium pusillum, Lamium purpureum, and Stellaria media.
