This article concerns the distance of trees and shrubs from buildings and other objects. It discusses the regulations of applying these distances, taking account of the current status and provisions in force in the past. In particular, the following buildings were taken into account: roads/streets, tram tracks, railway lines, cycle paths, pavements, buildings, industrial networks (electricity, telecommunications, gas, water, sewage, heating), dykes and other. In addition, distances from some other objects, such as road signs or plot boundaries, were considered. The article discusses the relevant legal regulations, Polish Standards, Industry Standards, industry instructions and publications. Specialised literature on the subject under discussion and the knowledge and materials, which result from the Research Project No. 3 entitled "Evaluation of the functioning of trees and shrubs under the influence of technical infrastructure of the city" conducted at the Institute of Spatial Planning and Housing on parts of Praga Północ and Praga Południe districts in Warsaw, were used.
