Acetona preparations — a high-energetic nutrient supplement containing molasses, propylene glycol and sodium propionate was administered to 16 cows the perinatal period, i.e. two weeks before and four weeks after parturition. Sixteen cows served as a control group. At day 28 post partum the cows receiving Acetona preparation had a statistically higher level of glucose and lower concentration of ketonic compounds in the blood plasma. The preparation did not influence the total protein level or its fractions in blood sera and colostrum whey or the acid-base balance. Sera from calves born to cows fed additionally with Acetona preparation contained a higher concentration of glucose, total protein and immunoglobulins.
