Tests without choice were carried out in controlled conditions in order to compare the amount of damage done to plants of beetroot, Chinese cabbage, maize and winter oilseed rape by three species of slugs. The studied plants at the 3–4 leaf stage were exposed to feeding by young slugs with average weight ranged from 1.5 to 1.6 g. It was found that the most damage was done to cabbage plants by Arion lusitanicus. The level of damage to winter oilseed rape, Chinese cabbage and beetroot plants by the slugs A. rufus and A. subfuscus was similar, and significantly higher comparing to maize plants. It was shown that maize plants suffered the least damage from all of the studied slug species, indicating their low level of attractiveness to slugs. The results will be used for predicting the levels of slug damage to crops of certain species of plants.
