The main purpose of the paper was to determine a place of tourism in the bio--economy of the Polish regions as well as spatial analysis of smart specializations of the re-gions regarding tourism and recreation activities. The paper is based on the review of strategic documents, expertise and scientific papers. The analysis shows that bio-economy in has been directly indicated as smart specialization only two provinces of Poland and tourism development is usually associated with the development of medicine and health services.
