The objective of the study was to determine the influence of sodium sulphate supplemented to fed in sheep kept on six different diets during summer and autumn on methane and volatile fatty acids production in rumen contents in vivo. The experiments were done on 7 sheep at the age from 2 to 4 years of body weight approximately 40 kg. Sodium sulphate in 2.0 g dose was stronger methane inhibitor than linoleic acid, the same strenght as behenic acid and a bit weaker than cis-oleic acid and chloral hydrate. In consideration of a low price and increase of rumen fermentation efficiency sodium sulphate appears to be a good supplement for practical use.
