Partition coefficient n-octanol/water is the most commonly used parameter for describing lipophilicity. The aim of this study was the usefulness of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for determination of log Pow for chlorothalonil based on OECD 117: OECD Guidelines For The Testing of Chemicals – Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) Method (2004). As reference substances: aniline, benzonitrile, nitrobenzene, chlorobenzene, toluene, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene were selected. The dead time was measured by using methanol as an unretained substance. The obtained by HPLC technique value of log Pow for chlorothalonil amounted to 2.93, and was comparable to literature data 2.92. The results revealed the usefulness of presented method in registration studies on chlorothalonil.
