Sandstone tablelands across the world show remarkable similarity of relief, from regional landform associations to small-scale features due to selective weathering. Strong structural control exerted by high rock mass strength explains the ubiquitous occurrence of cliffs and escarpments and dictates the geomorphic evolution through long-term scarp retreat. In terms of processes, there may be differences in nature and rates between different climatic zones, but this does not affect overall direction of landform evolution through time.
