Salpingidae is a rather small family of Tenebrionoid beetles, with 15 species recorded in Poland. One of the most remarkable members of the family is Aglenus brunneus, a blind and flightless species, once quite common in Poland, both in natural habitats (e.g. under bark of deciduous trees) and in synanthropic ones (various decaying plant matter, including hay, grain etc.). It was recorded from several regions of Poland: Baltic Coast, Pomeranian Lake District, Lower Silesia, Upper Silesia, Trzebnica Hills, Western Sudeten Mts., Kraków-Wieluń Upland and Eastern Beskid Mts., in most cases on the base of records from 19th century. Since 1920s the species has not been recorded in Poland. During field research in SW Poland, the species was found in Western Sudeten Mts., in Muchów. Together with A. brunneus, 35 other species of beetles were collected. Two of them are rather rarely collected in Poland. For Omonadus bifasciatus this is the second recent record in Poland after the species was rediscovered in NE part of the country. For Thes bergrothi, a species which inhabits similar microhabitats as A. brunneus (usually decaying plant material), this is the second record in Western Sudeten Mts.
