Systematically growing efficiency of co-operatives managing will enable them adaptation to the market economy conditions. The main purpose of the new management system introduction is, on the one hand, to create opportunities for the members of the co-operatives association to express their ideas, and on the other hand, to improve effectiveness of the co-operatives management. The paper presents the results of the survey carried out among the managerial staff of Polish co-operatives. The survey was focused on the problems connected with implementation of managerial system of governance in co-operatives. The main issues concern the risk of abandoning values and principles cultivated by co-operatives as well as lack of qualifications and management competencies required for success in decision making in co-operatives. Additionally, the results indicate that the demand for specialist training arising in the transformation period has been largely neglected. One of the key problems discussed in the paper concerns the methods of recruitment of new managers for co-operative economic agents.
