The level of catecholamines and cortysol was determined in blood of pregnant sows, individually tying or kept in a free, group system 16 days before and 3 and 14 days after their replacement into induvidual parturient cages. Moreover, in a group of sows from a group system transferred into individual parturient cages the level of these hormones was determined after a few minutes, 40 and 100 minutes since replacement. It was found that tying system after a period of adaptation is not stressogenic. In a cage system, however, stress activity increased as a result of social interactions of animals in a group. This activity disappeared after transfer of sows into individual parturient cages. It induced in the some first minutes signs of somatic stress and depression of emotional state.
